Of All The Investments....
Of All The Investments....
It’s tax time! Time to think about the expenditures and deductions we had the past year, and to evaluate the investments we’ll endeavor to make this year. It’s also an appropriate time to put some thought into the investment the Lord has in us.
When I think of that investment in financial terms, I can see that I am only common stock with minimal face value. Yet, the Lord Jesus still invested His very life to purchase me out of sin by His death and victorious resurrection. That was a sacrificial investment and one that did not come easily.
His very blood is invested in me. But, as I look at my individual investment portfolio, I see very few assets there. And what about dividends? Have I given the Lord Jesus any dividends on His investment in me, or have I defaulted? Do I
endeavor to live as He wants me to live, or do I live to please myself? Am I sharing the message of His Salvation with the world, or keeping that joyous news to myself?
I compare my investment history for the Lord to the fluctuation of the stock market -- constant gains and losses. My balance sheet contains abundant weaknesses; my past performances were not good. I am a liability because of sin. And, Satan is constantly lurking in the background with the threat of a hostile takeover. He tries to manipulate me by his fraudulent activities. Satan hopes that my value as an investment will diminish, so that I will be tempted to give in to his evil offers.
But, I don’t have to give in to Satan, because I have confidence that the Lord will not let me be tempted any more than I can handle. That’s written in the Lord’s manual, the Bible. He also promised that He will never sell me off as a bad investment, because He has covered all my weaknesses by the grace of His death and resurrection. He has forgotten my past performances and will not remember them again. I am no longer a liability for the Lord, and I am no longer a recipient of Satan’s evil takeover.
The Lord is the Master Investor, and when the time comes for Him to liquidate the stock, He will open the doors of Heaven for me and all who believe in His plan of salvation. As believers, we have the privilege of inheriting the profits from the equity of His sacrificial investment. We receive all the dividends. We absorb all the gains. And the greatest gain of all is the eternal home we will have in Heaven.
Of all the investments, we are the Lord’s most precious -- truly blue chip.
